The CSRD stands for Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, a sustainability reporting framework. These guidelines require companies to report on the impact of their activities on people and the planet starting in 2024. Topics include human rights violations, biodiversity, and reducing CO2 emissions.

Which companies need to report under the CSRD?

The directive begins with large companies. A company is considered large if it meets at least two of the following criteria:

  • Starting 2024: Publicly listed companies
  • Starting 2025: CSRD target group (if meeting two of the criteria below):
    • 250 employees
    • €20 million balance sheet total
    • €40 million revenue
  • Starting 2026: Publicly listed SMEs

Publicly listed companies must report in 2025 for the 2024 financial year. Other large companies will need to report in 2026 for the 2025 financial year.
